REHO Beach Wire July 14 Edition

Sun And Fun Bring The Boys
Back To Rehoboth Independence Weekend

Pool Parties, Events On The Beach, Dancing & LOVE
The boys were back in town Independence Weekend. With a three week lull after Memorial Day Weekend with annual June Pride month festivities going on in DC, Philly, Baltimore and NYC keeping the Rehomo regulars occupied, they returned in full force with crowds starting to appear on Friday July 2. Just in the nick of time.
Good thing. You needed three-four days of time and energy just to keep up with all the festivities. The clock started running for Happy Hour at the Blue Moon and Aqua about 5pm Friday and did not stop until late Monday evening or even Tuesday morning for some. So buckle up… here are some of the highlights!
Weekend Events of Note:
Shipwrecked > Mike DeFlavia, Tony Sowers’ and the Rehoboth Boys of 6 Futcher hosted their annual Pool Party on Saturday July 3 noon-6pm … and this was the must have ticket of the day. There was actually a noticeable difference on Poodle Beach from all those hotties MIA from the beach who were attending this “Shipwreck Party”. Let’s see, hot day + hundreds of hot boys+ pool = lots of fun, if the photos tell the story. (And sure the pics tell only HALF the story.
Freedom Beach Shore Leave > If you made it to the beach on Saturday, and looked like close to 1,000 of you did, then the big red flags and white tents on Poodle Beach probably caught your attention. Atmos Events presented their annual
tent event on the beach to publicize FREEDOM WEEKEND ’10 the Independence Weekend dance event at Cloud 9. The tent event was produced this year in conjunction with CAMP Rehoboth, CAMPsafe, LOVE and MisterMeetMister.com, Beach goers were treated to music, FREE prizes, free water, soda and snacks from Atmos sponsors and were able to buy tickets to the LOVE events and get free safe sex kits from CAMPsafe.
Freedom Weekend ’10 / Military Maneuvers main event > Saturday night headliner for dance parties was the FREEDOM WEEKEND main event at Cloud 9. DJ Tony Ruiz was in control of the turntables for the inaugural three day party event expanded from the single night MILITARY MANEUVERS Party presented annually on Independence Weekend at Cloud 9 since 2006. The place was packed after 11:30 with some of the same faces from the Pool Party and beach events.

LOVE 4 All Dance Benefit > If you were wondering where everyone was Sunday night, they were at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center whipping themselves into a party frenzy to the sounds of DJ Joe Gauthreaux. DJ Joe made his first appearance in Rehoboth at the annual dance benefitting CAMP Rehoboth. Gauthreaux is a new name on the marquee for this event after years or rotating between David Knapp and Julian Marsh as the regular headliners. The convention center was packed and hot boys were dancing everywhere even up on boxes.. a first for the event. The fireworks the went off (late) earlier in the evening on the beach in REHO should have been the warning shot for how hot this event would turn out.

“Weekend Sightings”

by Ms. Vizua Lee Empaired
The Amazing Things You See At The Beach

AQUA Grill > Where do they find them. You know who I mean…those cute little hotties that seem to just magically appear out of no where but end up working for Bill @ Aqua Grill every single summer. There must be a hidden tropical farm some place deep in the jungles of Key West where they secretly grow these guys…or maybe A&F now has a take out window that only a few select shoppers can tap. All “Vizua” knows is that there is no secret to why the crowds flock to the open air Happy Hour all summer here….it’s the boys silly! Or is it the silly boys…I forget!
Either way best to keep the magical mystery alive… knowing just how these
Angels suddenly appear each Summer might make the magic disappear. And we can’t have that.
CAMP Courtyard > The other night I was thinking to myself……
”Vizua do you think people realize what a gem we
have in Rehoboth Beach with the CAMP courtyard?”
Fortunately my second cocktail had not yet kicked in and I didn’t answer myself…right off. But those in the know already understand what Im talking about. All you need for a fun filled afternoon is grab a bagel or a chicken salad from Lori’s CafĂ© and park yo’ ass outside in the courtyard and let the games begin.
Just sit there and watch ALL the boys go by (no score cards please)... especially after 5p daily during the Summer when all the boys parade up and down Baltimore Avenue doing what Ms. Impaired calls the “Fruit Loop!” going back and forth between Aqua and Blue Moon. This can be a glorious site, especially during one of these holiday weekends! I almost had a religious experience right there on the sidewalk! But enough about me… no really. Seriously, we are lucky to have this unique space and experience. I may have to go around and kiss every man in town to make sure I’ve thanks all those who help make this possible. Of course, I’ll start during “happy hour!”

That's all from Vizua this week! But don't worry. I'll be back quicker than a twinkie chasin' after your credit card! Now remember these three words of widom boys ...
Peace. Love and Vizua-lation! See ya next time!

Getting From Here To There;
Travel Tips For Heading To DE Shore

Bay Bridge Travel Suggestions from MDOT.
Like it or not the Bay Bridge which carries routes 50 and 301 across the Chesapeake Bay is virtually the only travel route for all of us heading to Reho from DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia. Keys to a low stress travel plan include, well a plan.
One wrong move and hours of a holiday weekend can be wasted looking at the back end on the car in front of you instead of the back end of some cute…well you get the idea. MDOT has some great resources to help with your plan. Below is a short list of the best times to make the cossing at the Bay Bridge. For live cams and more info
www.BayBridge.org can help. Happy travels!
The best times to travel the Bay Bridge include:

Thursday – before 2 p.m.-
Friday – before noon and after 10 p.m.-
Saturday – before 7 a.m. and between 5 and 10 p.m.-
Sunday – between 7 and 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m. -
Memorial Day Monday – before 11 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

Reminder: The Maryland State Police LOVE to hide at the end of the Bay Bridge heading east just as you think you’re all clear crossing the bridge. Usually hiding in the median as the east bound lanes come back together.

Speed Traps: The Real Deal.
Taking Route 50 to the 404 into Denton and then switching to the left onto Hwy 16 just south of Denton for the Greenwood-Ellendale-Milton can shave some serious time off the route to Rehoboth. BUT, when heading into each of these small towns, remember as Jackie Gleason said in the “Smokey & The Bandit” movies, “the Lawah is the Lawah.” Each of these quaint little hamlets have very aggressive police that are on the look out for tourists; 25mph means 25mph.
Happy Travels!

On July 4, fireworks will light up the skies of Rehoboth Beach—not just on the boardwalk but inside the Convention Center as the doors open on Love 2010.
Now in its 16th year, the mega-dance event Love may well have become a Rehoboth tradition, but this year’s sensational new DJ Joe Gauthreaux is sure to keep it anything but traditional. CAMP Rehoboth Library Reception For Tony Burns
Saturday May 22 4-6pm

To say the Tony Burns is a Rehoboth institution would be an understatement. Anyone who has been part of the Rehoboth Gay community for more than a day, knows Tony by sight or reputation.
Whether you call him the "Mayor" or "unofficial historian," few in our community making their way through all the social or party events in Rehoboth over the past twenty plus years, have escaped his roving camera lens at the beach.
With hundreds if not thousands of photos taken over these years, Tony Burns has amassed an unparalleled historical record for Rehoboth Beach Gay community. Tony has now donated these photos to the CAMPRehoboth Community Center Library for all to see and enjoy. The reception at CAMPRehobothcelebrates his photos and the generous gift to the community.
